Bill Black

 

Professor Black holds an B.A. from Stanford and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He has been a member of the Faculty of Law at U.B.C. since 1970. He is recognized as one of Canada's leading human rights scholars. His areas of teaching include human rights and constitutional law, with particular focus on human rights legislation and equality rights. From 1973 to 1977, he was a member of the British Columbia Human Rights Commission, and from 1989 to 1993, he was Director of the University of Ottawa Human Rights Research and Education Centre. In 1994, Professor Black was appointed by the B.C. Minister Responsible for Human Rights as Special Advisor. His Report on Human Rights in British Columbia was released in December, 1994. From 1999-2000, he was one of four members of the Canadian Human Rights Act Review Panel, appointed by the federal Minister of Justice. The Panel's Report was published in June, 2000.
