Biographies

 

Joseph Weiler
B.A. (Hons.) (Toronto) 1969; LL.B. (Osgoode) 1972; LL.M. (California, Berkeley) 1974

 

Joseph Weiler was called to the Bar of B.C, 1973, joined the Faculty of Law in 1974 as Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1979 and Professor in 1987. Professor Weiler has served as a mediator and arbitrator of over 400 disputes and was elected to the National Academy of Arbitrators in 1984. He currently serves as Special Advisor to the Vancouver Canucks Hockey Club. Professor Weiler is founding director and president of the Pacific Institute of Law and Public Policy; served as executive director of the Asia Pacific Business Institute (1985-87); and chaired the Canadian Bar Association Asian Law Task Force (1986-89). From 1986-87, Professor Weiler served as Industrial Inquiry Commissioner of the Port of Vancouver Container Traffic Commission. Professor Weiler has edited, co-edited and authored a variety of publications. His teaching subjects include: Labour Law, Criminal Law, and Sports and Entertainment Law.
